TEACHING PLAN

Updated: Oct 9, 2019

CURRICULUM

The education system in Vietnam is under the responsibility of The Ministry of Education and Training. Compulsory education in Vietnam is 9 years. The education system in Vietnam has 5 classifications, namely kindergarten, primary education, lower secondary education, higher secondary education, and higher education.

from Ministy of Education and Training, 2007

Preschool and Kindergarten starts from the age 3- 5 years, but is not compulsory education. Vietnamese citizens mostly begin their education at the prymary education level. Prymary education lasts for 5 years, from the age of 6-12 years. After completing the 5th grade , students needed to pass the Elementary Graduation Examinations. The next level is lower secondary education which lasts for 4 years, from grade 6 to grade 9. After the 9th grade, students required an Intermediate Graduation Examination to continue to the next level. After going through lower secondary education, students can choose whether to continue their education to higher secondary education or vocational education. Higher secondary education or high school starting from grade 10 to grade 12 and vocational education lasts for 3 years. After the students pass the 12th grade on high school, the students must attend a graduation test given by the Province’s education service. The test is generally has 6 subjects, 3 of which are always included – foreign language, mathematics, and literature.

The aims of education in Vietnam in general is to prepare students to face the world in the future and become good citizens. Vietnam government is very concerned and provides adequate facilities to support the learning process in class. Ministry of Education and Training provides the syllabus to teachers as a reference for learning topics.

The syllabus consists of learning objectives and learning topics. From the learning objectives provided, the teacher can design the learning process in such a way that the expected learning objectives are achieved. each topic in the syllabus will be taught in one meeting. so the teacher will make a learning implementation plan for each meeting.

TEACHING PLAN RELATED TO MY MAJOR

The teaching plan structure in Vietnam does not have much difference from the teaching plan in Indonesia. Like the teaching plan in general, the teaching plan structure in Vietnam consists of information about the subject and lesson title, learning objectives, basic life skills are taught on the lesson, teaching aids, teaching methods, and the procedure. In the procedure contains all learning activities (teacher and student activities) in detail accordance to what has been designed by the teacher, such as the time used for each activity (opening, main, closing).

The following is a teaching plan that I use in my teaching practice.

TEACHING MEDIA

  1. Goals

Previously I had prepared a teaching aid as a learning medium to anticipate misconceptions in the learning process, which I call The Magic Cup with the aim of making it easier for students to understand the material being taught. This media is used to teach the material addition of tens of numbers with unit numbers.

Teaching aids : The Magic Cup

2. Tools & Materials :

The tools and materials needed are as follows :

  1. A black styrofoam sized 30cm X 40cm

  2. Ice cream sticks

  3. 6 tea cups

  4. origami papers (red, pink, yellow, orange, purple, yellow light, blue green)

  5. paper glue

  6. scisor

  7. ballpoint

3. How To Make

The steps of making The Magic Cup are as follows :

  1. Wrap 2 cups using purple origami paper, then label the "dozens of" on the side of the cup.

  2. Wrap 3 cups using yellow light origami paper, then label the "units" on the side of the cup.

  3. Wrap 1 cups using green origami paper.

  4. Stick each cups to the styrofoam using glue as shown above.

  5. Make a plus sign on yellow light origami paper and rectangular symbol pattern so that it looks like a thick straight line on yellow origami paper then cut outs.

  6. Attach all these symbols to the styrofoam as shown.

  7. Make decoration on styrofoam to make it look more attractive.

4. How To Use

How to use the magic cup is very easy. For example, what is the result of 29+5 ?

To calculate the results of 29 + 5 with a magic cup is as follows :

  1. From 29, we get 2 tens and 9 units. Take 20 sticks then place it in a top purple cup, then take 9 stiks and place it in a yellow cup besides the purple cup.

  2. Because it is plus 5 and 5 is units, so take 5 sticks and place it in a second yellow cup bellows the first yellow cup.

  3. Add the sticks in a yellow cup first, so 9 sticks plus 5 stiks equal to 14 sticks. From 14, we get 1 ten and 4 units. Place 4 sticks in the third yellow cup bellows the second yellow cup and place 1 stick in the green cup.

  4. Add the stick in a green cup with the sticks in the purple cup, so 1 stick plus 2 sticks equal to 3 sticks. Place 3 sticks in the second purple cup. Now we get 3 tens and 4 units. So the result of 29+5=34.
